Steve Wedge

Steve WedgeSteven G. Wedge, a former cheerleader, captain, and National Champion at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio (USA), founded COA Cheer & Dance on October 28, 1996, and serves as its current President and CEO.  Formerly, Mr. Wedge was the President of Songleaders and Cheerleaders of America, Inc., a non profit spirit organization that was founded on May 27, 1987, and is now known as the Shirley A. Wedge National Cheerleading and Dance Scholarship Fund.  He currently serves as its Vice Chairman.
 
Mr. Wedge’s motivation and his background in accounting and cheerleading have been the driving forces that have lead COA Cheer & Dance to be a major player in the spirit industry today.  Located in Columbus, Ohio, COA’s mission is to provide high quality programs and educational opportunities that promote personal development for all persons of the cheerleading and spirit community, and is the only company dedicated to promoting cheerleaders and dancers as athletes. Since 1987, COA Cheer & Dance and the Shirley A. Wedge National Cheerleading and Dance Scholarship Fund have awarded over $600,000 in scholarships and cash awards to deserving athletes.
 
Mr. Wedge is a founding board member of the Spirit Industry Trade Association (SITA), and served as its Treasurer for 6 years.  Mr. Wedge is also a founding board member of NCSSE (National Council for Spirit Safety and Education) and is a heavy contributor to the USASF, serving on the Board of Directors, the Sanctioning Steering Committee, the Sanctioning Committee, and the Worlds Advisory Committee.  His service to The Ohio State University Cheerleader Alumni Society consisted of two years as its President and 14 years as its Treasurer. 
 
During his 25 year career serving the spirit industry, Mr. Wedge has been recognized several times for his dedicated contributions.  In 1992, The Ohio State University Cheerleader Alumni Society awarded Mr. Wedge the “Scarlet & Gray Award” for being the Most Inspirational Alumni Cheerleader.  In 1994, he was awarded the Outstanding Service Award for his leadership, generous support, and outstanding contributions to the formation of the Buckeye Cheerleading Coaches Association.  In 2006, Mr. Wedge was selected by Convention South magazine as one of its Meeting Professionals to Watch and, he was awarded SITA’s Leadership Award for outstanding service and leadership to the SITA organization.  In 2007, he was awarded the USASF Achievement Award for his contributions to the United States All Star Federation and the all star community and recently he was named as one of the Top Ten Most Influential Industry Leaders by American Cheerleader’s All Star Insider magazine.  Mr. Wedge is proud to be one of the inaugural inductees to SITA’s Hall of Fame.
